We are hoping to build up a library of fish and marine invertebrate ID books for the club. Any recommendations of particularly good ones, useful for the North Sea and British coastline?

I have also tried to find a set of identification slates suitable to take underwater - preferably with annotated pictures to help us identify the fish and other life that is commonly seen around the UK -anyone seen any for sale? if not, do you know any enterprising organisation that might produce them for us from good photos/pictures? Grateful for any serious suggestions -we tried The Deep but they don't have any!

Further to the above (all great I.D books). MarLIN now print a set of laminated cards of selected species for the sealife surveys. You can get them from MarLIN (see the above links) for ?3. Might be a bit restricted for what you are looking for - if you find anyone that publishes red sea style I.D cards I'd be interested to know.

British Sea Fishes - Frances Dipper

I would agree that this is a great book with some good photos of fish.
I particularly like the photo on Pg 148.....rare fish that one!

David.

Further to this thread I use the following book for recognising marine life here in asia....

"Marine fishes of SE Asia" by Gerry Allen, IBSN no 9-6259-3267-4. I purchased it from the people on the link below....(they have a monthly newsletter via email)

Hey Helen,

Have a look at this link for info on individual fish and other sea-life. Hope it helps.
