Question for Keith
Did`nt we (BSAC) get kicked out of CMAS several years ago (or did we leave )? What is our status with regard to this ?

While we are still not part of CMAS, and unlikely to be as I set it, I understand we can get a CMAS card via a relationship with the SAA (DOC 2002). Quite how you get this card I cannot find on the BSAC web site.

Phew! I?m not up-to-speed on the full history of this, I am sure that somebody will correct me if I?m wrong!
Some years back (before my time) we did have a disagreement with CMAS, I believe that it was to do with the BSAC being a British organisation but our international schools issuing CMAS cards in non-British territory. But that?s long gone and in the past, we now have a good working relationship with the SSA and with CMAS.
The SAA are now the UK?s representative on CMAS, the BSAC are perfectly happy with this arrangement and support the SAA in the work that they do, we have a very good working relationship with the SAA and co-operate at many levels.
Phil (Chairman) put an awful lot of effort into our relationships with the SAA and with CMAS, one of the things that has come out of this relationship was the signing of an agreement with the SAA at LIDS last year. This agreement, negotiated with the co-operation of CMAS, means that BSAC divers can obtain dual-sided cards with full CMAS accreditation via this agreement with the SAA. However, I?m not sure of the mechanics of this and whether we?ve sorted all of the procedures yet, which is why I told James to check with HQ :-)
I hope that explains things Steve, our disagreements with CMAS are long in the past and we?re moving forward with co-operation between the British agencies and CMAS. That (IMHO) is how things should work! We?re all in this together with the same aims, we SHOULD be working together and that?s exactly what we are doing.

It looks like my earlier replies were pretty close :-)
We are nearly there, we're just finalising some procedural and administration issues and then we will be able to issue CMAS double-sided cards via our agreement with the SAA. Full instructions will be available when it's all sorted, for now HQ are just noting interested parties.
