Hi there,
Does anyone know if you are allowed to travel on the Tube (LOndon Underground) or on trains with an air cylinder? I am without a car and need to get my cylinder to a dive shop for testing.
Any advice very welcome.
Many thanks,
Kat

Hi Kat,
I often lug around a 15 Litre steel on the local buses, twice the London under ground and several times on the normal train networks (stoke-durham mainly).
About have the time they have been fully empty with only a hand full of times full.
I have been asked by some bus driver/ticket inspectors, they dont seem to mind....especial if its in my 65litre rucksake or empty.
Enjoy your trip, but its a pain to move quick with them so plan on missing a train or two...or is that just me when i have all (including weights) my diving gear, laptop and all my clothes and goodies from uni  :)
They dont normally mind as long as its not more than 1/2 MAX de-pressurised and secured.

I have taken O2 cylinders, diving cylinders etc. on the tube many times.
Most of the time I haven't had any problems.
However, one time I did have a problem. Despite phoning LU first, and them telling me there was no issue; the station manager of Canada Water took an objection. I called LU. They told me that there was nothing they could do - station managers have too much autonomy.
I would imagine bus drivers have the same priviledges.
So. Put it in a big bag and pretend it's something else and you'll have no problems. We haven't since then.
