Hi, just out of interest I seem to remember when I did my RFA course (some time ago) I was told that when the time came to renew it would be free of charge is this still the case?
Also whilst I'm posting does anyone know why 100% masks on diving Oxygen kits are demand valves rather than having a reservoir bag?
Thanks

At a wild guess:
1) The demand mask is more robust than a reservoir bag
2) It's reusable
3) You don't have to remember to stick your thumb over the bag outlet to ensure that it fills before putting it on the casualty
4) It's (slightly) more efficient
5) You don't run the risk of breathing the bag to empty if someone is breathing too fast.
There are probably others.
However, having a demand mask on the free-flow line would make an enormous amount of sense (and you'll never guess what was suggested at our Committee meeting not so long ago...)

To deliver 100% a simple bag system must be delivering more than the casualty is breathing or it will bottom out at times and make the casualty fight for breath. It can work with an operator watching the bag with one hand on the tank valve but the demand reg is much easier way to do it and hence makes the oxygen go further as none is just being spilt.
