On the bbc - the whole coutnry plans to go carbon neutral in 10years and is also actively looking boht to build itself taller in order not to be drowned by rising se levels and also creatign a huge relocation fund to buy somewhere else to live if the worst happens.

Kind of lays down the eco-gauntlet really.

I keep asking myself, why can't we go carbon neautral in 10 or 20years if we really wanted to? All the money we spent propping up banks, that would pay for a whole new energy industry/car industry/sustainable fisihing industry on green principles, so why not?

Yes, but what do they really mean by carbon neutral? To be genuinely neutral shouldn't they be discouraging all the tourists (that they depend on for their economy) to stay away and not fly, thus reducing their carbon impact? Having said that, I do agree that the principle is to be applauded.
