Hello, my girlfriend got one made up at office world. Specify what you want on the stamp, with mine was with two lines, one for the name the other for my number.

I got one from Lyreco (01952-293000), model "printy 4910", its one of those self-inking ones.

3 Lines: Name, OWI 9999, ANI 9999

I seem to recall it costing about ?10

Lot easier/quicker/neater - esp. when you've 10-20 trainees attending lectures

I got a stamp made at staples if you get the logo on a disk they will copy it with text around it.

I got mine from the Manchester Rubber Stamp Company.

Excellent - Circular 1.5 CM Diameter - Fits in QRB spaces perfectly.

Has BSAC Logo in centre with wording around the outside - Name and OWI number.

Very good work and only abot ?6.00

They make the BSAC branch stamps - so thy have the BSAC logo on file.

I used Stampex. Lots of designs to chose from or use your own. Ordered on Monday, arrived from Germany on Thursday.

Price is all in Euro's but otherwise great service.

Darren may i point that a rubber stamp in a log book has no validation, you MUST sign the logbook after all ANYBODY can rubber stamp a qualification

Rob, I'm assuming you're referring to Instructors and QRB validations, as a logbbok with your buddy's signatures is purely for your own records/use.

AFAIK a stamp is still valid for QRBs, I have at least one AIs stamp in my QRB for a couple of DL drills back in 2000; does that mean the DL qual is invalid? It'd be a bit late now as my OWI ticket assumes the DL cert is valid.

However, it is an interesting point though: Who thinks that there is a problem with instructors having their approval/signatures forged? Anyone got any tales in respect of that?

AISI, assuming that you had reason to doubt the validity of a qualification and the signatures, if these were from an instructor you knew, you could ask that instuctor if it/they were genuine, if you didn't know the instructor personally then how would you know a fake signature from a real one anyway?

Anyone ever tried verifying a QRB entry through HQ? I'd bet it's be virtually impossible, unless HQ hands out Instructors contact details, which given the "Data Protection Act" I would strongly doubt.

I think it would be a severely sad individual who felt the need to forge signatures to get a diving qualification, after all, it ain't rocket science!

Steve

PS anyone want a genuine autographed Elvis CD ...? ;)

Steve - totally agree...

At our club, we run the theory & pool sessions of the OD course from (say) Jan-Mar of each year but don't issue/release the QRBs until (as I recall) the theory paper is complete. At that time, the Instructor(s) that did each lecture get all of the QRB books to sign. Lets say you did 2 lectures plus a number of pool sessions, that an awful lot of QRBs to sign at one go.

In any case, the DO has the "final signature" and that requires the BSAC/Branch stamp AND his/her signature.

So, if the DO believes something is dodgy/forged, they have the final sanction...

The DO might have the final sanction.

However - the only guarantee that the DO has is that he recognises the SIGNATURE of most of the instructors.

This is another reason why it is sensible to inform the nDO if you intent to complete any training outside of the branch ...just so there are no surprises when the book is presented for the ward to be granted.

Every NQI is that they must SIGN to say they are satisfied that any training carried out under their supervision has been completed properly. B until OD is complete (or nearly complete). The QRB should be issued as soon after membership is processed and preferably before training commences.

This is assuming the sigs are in fact legible ;)
I was signing some QRBs recently from a training weekend earlier in the year, & spent half the time asking the DO "Who's that? what the **** does that say?"

Harking back to the potential saddo who'd bother to fake a signature to get their qualification, anyone with a bit of tracing paper could do that, but who'd bother to try to forge an individually designed stamp? If someone was that bothered they could get a branch stamp made and give theirselves all sorts of qualifications.

Having lost my Novice II card, I had to try to arrange to get my instructor to sign up a new QRB. The problem being that we'd done the course through a dive shop in Malta, on a trip organised by my school, on which we'd taken a couple of instructors from somewhere in the UK.

I had my instructor's name and AI number in my logbook and, while HQ wouldn't give me his address, they did give me his work number.

But this was a few years ago now...

(Bit of a tangent but) that reminds me, whatever appened to that Instructor database/mailing list that HQ was setting up last year?

Probably stuck in the same to-do box, as that other good idea
that seems to have ground to a halt.

Hey Darren,

I bought mine (self-inking) from this company after meeting with and talking to them at last year's Dive Show in Brum:

Contact: Martin McConnell

at

Dive Print Ltd
Unit 1
East Quarry
Appley Lane North
Appley Bridge
West Lancashire
WN6 9AE

TEL: 01257 - 253101
FAX: 01257 - 253021

<a href="http://www.diveprint.co.uk" >http://www.diveprint.co.uk</a>

They have a huge choice of diving stamps in their catalogue and will also customer make one if you want. Their turn-around time from order to delivery was impressive too. Hope this helps mate.

Cheers,

Bren.

Just a thought (haven't really thought it through...) but would it be a good idea to have a list at the back of the logbook for instructors to print their name, give a signature, show their Inst. number and have some sort of contact (email or phone no)?
Only a minor hassle to have it.
