Hi Lee

there should be a list to get you started in the Student Notes for the OWIC you attended.

Planning Sheets and other advice can be found from Success in Exams (http://www.bsac.com/page.asp?section=1663&sectionTitle=Success+in+Instructor+exams)

Thanks Jim, I got the sheets the other day, nice that they are so handy. I am looking to write the lesson, run it dry on land, then run it in the water and make sure everything is in place. Then move on to the next one. Its time to rummage around in the student packs and find that list, got to admit I did not look after the course.

Thanks again

Hi Gordon,

Was there last w/e and Frank is now asking dive organisers to let him know when we plan to use the site as he is experimenting with alternate ways of using the site to make money and we could turn up and find no space to park.

I let him know about the PIE on Sunday, but Saturday might be a surprise.

He will try to accommodate, but wants advance notice.

Regards

Edward

No problem - thanks for that Edward, there will only be 4 of us so shouldn't crowd him out on Saturday... I think BSAC 21 are going to do a training weekend there this weekend as well.
I will pre-warn Frank of any future events though, we will have 9 on Sunday but it will all be "in water" stuff, he will only see us at coffee and roll breaks :-)

Cheers - Gordon

Hi Lee,

What I did prior to my PIE was get a waterproof note book (one of the BSAC shop ones) and made out lesson plans for every conceiveable lesson that could be asked in a PIE. (i.e any of the open water lessons up to & inc Dive Leader.)

I included:
Mask clearing
Reg retrieval
AS & AS ascents
CBL
CBL & Tow
First RB lesson
Tow with RB
Distance line
Shot lift & shift
1st compass lesson
Compass navigation (u/w)
.. + probably others that I can't remember right now.

For each lesson I wrote down a page of the SEEDS brief for that lesson, covering all the necessary points (easy to forget something with exam nerves!) (Including a dry run and/or demo of shot line if relevant.)
Then a page or two with the lesson in step by step format. I also included little diagrams to show the desired positioning of instructor to students if required; e.g: S-I-S or S-S-I, you get the idea.
Then a note (REAP) for debrief at the end.

It takes quite a bit of work & thought to do all this but it is worth it.

The joy of this was that in the exam, when given my lesson, I could just flip to that page and hey presto - ready to go.
Also once you've passed your exam - you have a full set of lesson plans all ready to use! :)

If you can get the oportunity to practice each lesson prior to the exam to iron out any issues & sort out timing, then even better.
Regionally organised prep events are great for this!:D

It's funny but the lesson I finally got for my exam was Tow with RB's
- which is exactly what I had for my lessons at my IFC & OWIC too!
(all with different instructors or examiners so purely coincidental!)
Hopefully then, I can teach that at least!! ;)

Hope you get on well & come on over for a dive some time!

Cheers,
Mark.

Thanks all for the sound advice,, PIE done last weekend and now sitting with fingers crossed. I did the complete set of 10 lessons on A then laminated them, lol I did get a little flummoxed, I dragged every bit of dive gear I just might need 8 hours sail and drive away and ended up walking around the grass next to the car park with a compass :) on the up side I managed to get to two dive shops and spend lots of cash :) so many thanks again for all the help.
