Does anyone know of an independent tank testing outfit, preferably near the South East. I have heard that they charge half the price of the normal testers and are less likely to respray the outside due to a speck of rust.

I took mine into ORCA diving , Portland Rd, South Norwood (South London near Croydon) and was suprised when they came back having been tested at Amphibian Sports, West Norwood. Apparently they are a test centre. The cost was the same.

Any testing houses must work to specific standards that are gov set. IDEST registered testing houses do just that, so if Joe Bloggs dive shop tells you they will test your cyl for a lot less be very carefull. You might not get what you are paying for. There is no short cut to safety.

Don't get me wrong,I am not advocating sub standard testing and
its not so much the price but the Boll0x one has to put up from dive shop owners, who tell you your pony doesn't have a chance of passing because it has tiny bit of blistering under the paint, and that "new euro regs mean you can't paint your own tank, blah, blah, Here, let me sell you a new one."
I eventually took it to Scubadoos in S.Croydon and it passed without a blink.
That's the last time I take my gear to a certain shop in East Grinstead.

Hoy, that's my local dive shop, I'll have you know!
And I won't be getting mine tested there either ;o)
Mind you, they DO service regs well.
Have you ever tried having a chat to them about Nitrox..? :o)
