I received a bunch of Breathing Air/Nitrox/Trimix stickers through the post today and I'm surprised (and quite happy) at their size. They're 1" by 6" as against my current stickers which are 6" by 'all the way round the cylinder'!
However, I'm a little wary about gleefully ripping the old stickers off - is there a minimum size for these stickers does anyone know, or has anyone had any problems getting fills with these new stickers?
Thanks

Robert

The BSAC stickers were designed for those of us getting hacked off with the ridiculous size of "wraps". They were designed to match the diagrams in the SITA leaflet which spells out the requirements and yes, they are of an appropriate size - I was boring enough to go to the SITA presentation at one of the dive shows about a year ago and they were very specific that there is (technically) no minimum size.

Microdots might be going a little too far...

The standard BS EN 1089-2:2002 specifies the size of the hazard diamond in relation to the outside diameter of the cylinder (e.g. length of side >= 15mm for 7" cylinders and >=25mm for 8" cylinders), but also says that other sizes of diamond can be used provided the hazard symbol is "well visible in relation to the size of the cylinder". The size and shape of the panel (the rest of the label) are optional, but the diamond must cover at least 10% of the area of the label.

Same size as the stickers produced by SITA themselves so they must be ok. Our club members have been using the SITA stickers for the last 6 months without any problems.

I recently had my tank serviced and ripped off the massive 'advertising' sticker and replaced it with my neat and tidy SITA one.

Hi Robert

As Iain has been pointed out the BSAC stickers are based on the copyright free designs in the SITA booklet ?Guidance Notes for the marking of SCUBA cylinders? and SITA have produced them in accordance with BS EN 1089-2. The stickers are virtually identical to the official SITA stickers (the exception being the allowed for logo) and satisfy all of the statutory requirements for cylinder labels.

Should any dive shop question the status of these labels then please let us know, both BSAC Technical Services (who sourced the labels for us) and SITA would be very interested!
