[Thanks to Steve/Dave]

They're enabled in the config, I'm OK as an admin, but there seems to be a bug with vB3.5.0 as regards avatars for general users. I'm sure I've seen something on the vB help forums but I don't have time to investigate right now (anubody?) - it's "on the list" and we'll post here when it's sorted.

Feel free to plough through http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/bugs35.php and Google to see if you can work out what the problem is :) We'll fix it - when we locate the circular tuit...

Ah ha! Think I stumbled into it when looking for something else...

It was a problem with the permissions of the default user group, you could use them but not upload them. Hopefully sorted now.

Keith

My normal avatar won't work, it says you're restricted to 19 kb, mine is 39kb as it's animated yet it works ok on YD forum

I think I'll "hold" on that one Steve if you don't mind. We do have to think of our dial-up users, one problem with these type of forums is the eye-candy bandwidth - half a dozen users on a page, each using 40KB avatars is a shed load of bandwidth and far exceeds the page content. My avatars are about 5KB each, i.e. a 40KB animated avatar takes up the space/bandwidth of eight normal ones.

See what others think on this, for now I'll leave it at the 19KB vB default.

Thanks for the comment.

Ok guys, I'm stupid.... tell me what an avatar is, and can I get one from the Dive Show this weekend?

hint:

Nigel's showing his a yellow helmet in his avatar.

You'll get the hang of the jargon soon - there's alot more to this newfangled-interwebbythingy than we appear to have words for.

Cheers,
Tristan

Hi Keith

Avatar now sorted thanks to MattS who's obviously a bit of a computer wizard.
