...CRAMP IN THE TOP OF MY LEGS WHEN DIVING IN THE SEA
WHEN I DIVE OUT OF THE U,K I NEVER GET ITI used to get that a lot.
I had a demonstration quality cramp release.
I added quilted booties all up my thighs under the dry suit and it went away.
Now I'm not even sure I can reach the ends of my fins but it doesn't matter.
It was just the cold getting into my calves.
Calm down CAPS LOCK IS SHOUTING :-)
Cramp is almsot always due to a combination of dehydration and over exertion. Also cold will make you more susceptible.
In the uk (drysuit?) you may sweat in your suit carrying kit about, not think about drinking enough (tea/coffee doesn't count - the caffeine does not help) becasue it is not so hot as the (e.g) red sea, & generally work harder due to colder water and more kit. This pushes you over the threshold into getting cramp.
You may be holding your legs awkwardly if your kit is not comfortable and/or your finning technique may need improving.
Are you a BSAC member? AN isntructor fomr your club should be able to hel pspot any kit or technique problems, the rest is down to fitness and drinking enough.

Incidentally, is cramp release (self or buddy) in the BSAC syllabus at all? Had a quick look and i cant find mention to it at all in the sheltered or open water lessons.

I tend to take a few cereal bars along (the ones with honey and hazel nuts in) and eat one or two an hour or so after breakfast. I find it stops me getting really hungry and pigging out mid day, and then getting cramp on the afternoon dive.
Part of my buddy brief used to be a signal for cramp, but I don't need it now.

I HAVE CHANGED MY FLIPPERS
Your what? :D
As posted above, this is most likely due to dehydration.
Can I ask if you dive in a semidry or drysuit?
If its a semidry, drink as much as you possibly can before getting in the water, whats the worst that can happen?

I suppose it depends on the amount of beer you drink before hand :p
