SEARCH FOR MISSING DIVER AT LYME BAY

Portland Coastguard received an emergency call (Pan Pan) at 8.39 a.m. this morning from the crew of a dive boat in Lyme Bay, reporting that one of its divers whilst making an ascent lost communication with them.

The Coastguard requested the launch of the Weymouth and Lyme Regis lifeboats and
scrambled the Coastguard rescue helicopter to the scene. Navy divers are also proceeding in order to conduct a sub-surface search.

Jim Anderson, Portland Coastguard Watch Manager, said:

?There is at present a dive boat in the area assisting with the search as well as another on its way with volunteer divers on board wishing to assist. Our objective is to find the missing diver as quickly as possible. The weather conditions are favourable with good visibility.?

Sadly the second ? this year. Also a British diver died on the Rainbow Warrior. Although the news is sad for all concerned, fatalities have not been as many as this time last year.

Note that that was then - they had a dive boat in the vicinity. They're not looking for volunteer divers now.

Hello, Easter is just around the corner, when accidents take off with the start of the diving season for many. Can I please urge everyone to be careful. We all heard about our 50th year, how about making it special with the least amount of incidents.

Regards Mike

Yes, the emergency proceeded most of the day with Ch 16 providing a sad commentary to those of us in the vicinity.

See URL below.

How heartily we all wish to celebrate 50 years with a significant reduction in incidents and casualties this year.

Third, I think - sorry to be a pedant on such a sensitive topic, but a diver was missing on the Medoc in Plymouth at the end of March.
