Small but perfectly formed

its part of the initiation - they pay and we beat them, it sorts out the weaklings.

We have just over 50 members at the moment. The number is a bit low at the moment, however, we are due a new intake of potential divers.

Our numbers do go up and down, 50 is generally as low as the membership gets. We have been up above 80, however, this was with a large number of trainees, & in a more prosperous economic enviroment.

About 5 or 6, but we all go diving; sometimes when we shouldn't (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7850436.stm), I wasn't there.

Only 5 or 6?? How can you exist as a club that small??, or is this a temporary blip in membership perhaps - anyway, great clip of a full rescue, conditions looks very nasty but I hope all ended well.

We must have done over a 1,000 dives last year, plus ran the South Scotland Training sessions most months.

Only a weight-belt lost, plenty of embarrassment of those involved - its re-enforced you are never to experienced to learn.

I'd called-off the training session the week before because of the likelihood of similar conditions.

Rich.Very straightforward. No politics. Easy to check where the club kit is. Last AGM took about 30 minutes, committee posts sorted in under 5 minutes. I think half the time was spent discussing who was arranging a trip to Gibraltar, and who was organising the christmas bash.
We have a fully fledged training centre, compressor, 4 sets of almost brand new SCUBA kit, and two active instructors. Most recruits are PADI trained, and understand the financial pain.

Hopefully the numbers will build up to 10 this year, but we might have to split at the point;)

Common issue!

Paying members: 100
Number we see on a club night: 20-30
Number that actually go diving:- 8-10 winter (unless training, when 10-15)
20-30 summer (unless abroad!)

I was in a small branch - 8 members.
Politics reared its ugly head...
I left and joined a branch with more members.

The old branch is now down to 3 members... and they still cannot agree! (or go diving!)
