I asked pretty much the same question over on the Instructors Forum a few days ago and received a few replies that are still on that page. I await with interest more ideas on this forum!
Best wishes

Free Fall is a good game (and bouyancy exercise). Have 2, 3, or four divers in the deep end facing each other.
Then their task is to become neutrally bouyant together so they are mid water.
they then perform as free fall parachutists, by holding hands, then on que do a backward roll then link up together again, or side spin and so on
etc etc.
Can be very funny!

Hi

Our club just had a pool gala evening which was great fun. The games all used just mask, fins & snorkel and we involved all the kids too:

1. Penny Scavenge. Throw 100 pennies in the pool. 30 were marked on one side with a bit of tape, they were worth 5 points ordinary pennies one point. We played two games with these; A) max points in one breath (two divers at a time) b) everyone free for all until all the pennies collected, highest score wins. We did it for kids in the shallow end and adults in the deep end. NB check the pennies won't fall down the grid, we put a mesh over the grid in the pool just in case!

2. SMB relay race: Buy couple of hoola hoops (?1.99 Toys R Us, buy the big ones!), loop a weight belt over the bottom with a couple of blocks on. The air trapped in the hoop holds them upright. Relay race where you have to dive down through the hoop, passing the SMB reel around the outside, SMB must be reeled back in before handing on to next person. The way we played we had mixed teams but kids didn't have to dive through the hoop in the deep end but just snorkel towing the SMB. We had three teams but only two hoops which made for some interesting manouvering!

3. Relay race: Move the hoola hoops to shallower water, adults and kids in teams again but this time everyone had to go through the hoops, no SMb just straight snorkelling.

4. Tug of War: We used a lane marker rope doubled in half and had all the kids on the shallow end so they could stand (ish) and the adults in the deep end finning. The Adults won convincingly, so we put a couple of adults on the kids side which made it a much more even competition, but eventually the kids won.

It was a great hour in the pool, everyone got a good workout and fun too. Prize giving in the club/pub afterwards.

We'll definately be doing it again next year, so I too would like to hear any other ideas for games.

have fun

We occasionally have fun nights. We've tried relay races with various tasks/obstacles. We've had a giant inflatable "insect" slide-thing tied in the middle of the pool. But the most popular event is always the giant beachball. The ball is about eight feet in diameter and we split into two teams, adults and kids on each side. the kids stay in the shallow end and everyone else spreads out. The idea is to get the ball past the other time to the side of the pool. Great fun and a good workout too.

Try fancy dress!

If you you invent various prizes for their efforts, people can be very imaginative. Did it a couple of times with a tea-party thrown in - plastic furniture, beach umbrellas, lots of drinks and food! It was a real confidence builder for new trainees to eat and drink underwater, and they had fun in the Mary Poppins race (between regs, using inflated carrier bags for buoyancy so they could race in big hops....)
Have Fun!
