View Full Version : 50th Anniversary ???

I`ve just had a look at the ` Souvenier Shop` for the 50th Anniversary. Any one expecting T-shirts, caps, stickers etc will be sadly disappointed.
The items availible seem to be firmly aimed at those attending the bash at the Waldorf Hotel in London. There are high class & high priced spirit and wine decanteurs, a glass beer mug, a slick pen, nice coffee mugs and, so as to look casual, but not too scruffy, a polo shirt.
Come on BSAC, most of your members are not all high income, whiskey sipping lodge members. I know a concession has been made to the lower echelons with the addition of a beer mug, but most of us conduct our dive trips wearing t-shirts, a worn out cap and drink our beer from cans.
I`d like to show my allegance to the club, and will probably buy the polo shirt, but 70 or 80 quid on a piece of glass wear to sit idly on the sideboard - no thanks.

It is the clubs Golden Jubilee after all and something to be proud of . The crystal items don't have to be 'idle' try filling with the water of life and drink a toast to those who have given so much of there time and more over the past 50 years, so often to be critised for trying to please everybody.Enjoy while wearing the smart shirt. The mug looks good full of tea with a bacon butty.
Try presenting an engraved beer mug to the longest serving member of your branch.
After all the choice is yours.
Keep on Divin' BSAC for another 50.

That's a bit unfair Steve. There are many branches (and members) with a very long and proud tradition who would like a momento of our 50th such as the specially engraved set. Don't forget the 50th aniversary book as well, that is available in a limited edition with (if available) the number of your choice such as a branch or instructor number.
You want T-Shirts and caps? Have a word with the mailshop people, they are looking for such ideas and if we can source some we'll consider adding them to the range. The polo shirts are VERY nice BTW, as modelled by the entire BSAC Council :-)

I just think that whoever decided the content of the memrobilia lacked a bit of imagination. Surely we should be displaying our Golden Jubilee to the rest of the diving world. That is not done best by items that, by their nature will be hid in peoples homes and workplaces. Why not be a bit brash about it, and sell stickers, patches, t-shirts with the emblem emblazed on it, caps with logos etc etc.
There again, we are the BRITISH Sub Aqua Club, so expect things to be a bit reserved.

If you've got a point to make, preferably a constructive one, then make it. Your inaccurate assumptions, whinges and insults are not required - take them elsewhere please.

I don't want to get drawn into a slanging match but whatever happened to freedom of speech
over the last year or so the amout of threads on this forum has reduced drastically. Is this because people prefer to use uncensored fora
Cheers
have a good life

I have upset a few people including Keith elswere and not been deleted. I can understand getting peed off with some aspects but i feel that Keith balances things very well.
I have come very close to being OTT but this is a socialising forum, and you can still say a lot without getting deleted.
Plus i agree the merchandise could be better, the image of holier then thou, armchair divers swigging champers needs to be avoided.
Have a dive with 326 we drink from cans and are totally politically incorrect.
