Hi all, and season's greetings 'n all that!

Been offered a twinset with these markings : IWKA 3 857 EB 2521. BS 5045/1/CM/S. TOV 12.88. TARE WT 13.18KG. WC 12.OL. WP 232 BAR. TP 348 BAR.

Apperently completely refurbished, internal shot blast, valve service, external shot blast, zinc hot spray, repainted then IDEST Hydro passed in Feb 08.

Just a bit wary with it being so old and worried about changes to test standards etc. Are these still a viable buy?

Would appreciate some advice...

Now I have no idea about UK specs but these to my mind seem to be the important ones TARE WT 13.18KG. WC 12.OL. WP 232 BAR. TP 348 BAR and provided that the Hydro was passed after all those refurbishings I'd call them a real deal. Whether they are a good deal is up to you.

Could well be wrong of course however passing your hydro would seem to endorse the rest of the markings. As a matter of comment, tanks are regularly quite ancient and just keep on keeping on if properly looked after.

Regs have not changed materially (test interval was lengthened a few years ago and we moved from quoting the British Standard to the EU standard, which are identical), so as Christian says if the test was after the referb it should be fine

i recently had to bin 2x 40cuft cylinders from circa 1978!

they had the 3/4 bsp threads and had a brass collar on the neck with all the stamps on there - apart from the last test markings, these were stamped on the shoulder - as the newer cylinders are.
which, apparently now is an instant fail

They would not have been 5045 cylinders
