My old BCD is defunct:( , I've now got myself a nice halcyon explorer wing system:) second hand but good cond', which obviously I cant dive a single on. Gonna get twin 12's after christmas. So my question/search for advice is, Is it worth buying a single wing as well? (frog indigo with single cylinder adaptor and cam bands £150)Or spend a bit more and get a smaller, ie 7 or 10 litre twinset and forget single cylinder (with pony) diving.
Dry weight of kit is not really an issue. Should I just use the twelves for my shallower, shore, or small rib dives as well. Or pick up another BCD say a second hand commando? Gonna be doing loads of diving next year.
I know its prob down to personal pref' but It would be nice to know everyone else's views. Didn't fancy buying an all round wing, Ta very much, john

I don't use twins but it sounds like twin 7s would do the job nicely. Or you could pick up a 2nd bladder, like the frog or an eclipse which would run a single.

If dry weight is not a problem then forget a second set of kit and stick with the 12s, that way you get used to them faster

Remember if you go for twin 7s (manifold) then you are likely to need to buy 2 sets if you do "out all day" style dives off a RIB or hardboat with no compressor as you are unlikely to get 2 (or 3) dives off 1 set of twin 7s.
As for the single wing - if you want to do single tank diving here and/or abroad its worth getting one (with an Aluminium plate)

I would think that depends on the size of the wing, which explorer is it ?
A large explorer is likely to be too big for twin 7's.

Thanks, some more points to help me make up my mind. Will also buy single wing then. Do most people then avoid hard boats without a compressor or swap wings over on boat. (no comments from rebrether pilots please I'm jealous enough :D as it is)
Setting my twinset wing up DIR style. I've seen single wing DIR systems set up with two regs (1st stages) on a 'h' / 'y' valve. Seems a bit overkill if using a 3l pony, as single cylinder diving would 'surely' be (for me anyway) shallower/ish no stop/minimal, diving?
Apreciate yer comments, been out of the club scene for a bit but looking at rejoining (a Cardiff one) after chrimbo and will be able to nag them then. many thanks john

Nope. Just get a nice set of twin 12s which you can do 2-3 dives on without having to swap out tanks.

And if you do want a bit more gas for the second/third dive take a top up tank and decanting whip with you

and if you want to get the most gas then use a 300 bar top up tank.
If you get twin 7's then you can get wide-spaced bands so that a manifold for a set of 12's fits. Then the wing is perfect. I've got 2 sets of twin 7's, wide spaced, and they work perfectly with my wing (that I also use for twin 12's).
If you go single tank then ideally I would get a single tank wing.

Thanks for that,:) gonna have to go for single tank wing I think, due to multiple dives in a day from rib.:)
