Hi,

My husband and I are planning to go diving in Feb for a week followed by a week of skiing in Finland.

Obviously we won't dive in the 24 hours before flying to Finland.

A friend who has done a lot of diving said she thought that there were restrictions on diving and then being at altitude for skiing. Personally I can't see a problem if we wait 24 hours before flying. There will be about 36 hours between diving and landing in Finland.

I would have thought that if it's safe to fly, then it is safe to be up a mountain.

Any clarification would be very appreciated.

We are both PADI Open Water divers with not masses of experience.

Thanks
H

With that time delay between diving and altitude plus the fact as OW you'll be limited to 20m max i'd say no issue what so ever. Enjoy both!

That's what I thought!

Thanks very much.

most of the hills in finland are not that big, if it was the alps it might be more of an issue

I seem to remember the biggest ski areas were Levi and Yllas and the local mountains were only 700m above sea level.
We had a great holiday there but it was blooming cold -36 degrees several days. We actually wore our weezle undersuits under our one piece ski suits to keep warm enough.

Should be fine - you're well inside the safety limits of any tables / computers / planning tools i'm aware of if you stick reasonably close to your qualification limits.

Only one thing to be careful of is you could mistake a skiing injury (sprain or something) as a bend, or vice versa! Unlikely though so wouldn't worry about it.

unlike the alps where you can be at 3500m

I was pondering this one, I'm off helping doing some training in Loch Fyne on the Staurday, max 20 meters and probably 2 dives, the next monring, snow willing I'm off to Glenshee for a days skiing. I came to the conclusion that its fine.... :D

Snow at Glenshee last weekend was good :)
