I am a newly qualified OWI and plan to be an active part of the training team within the branch. However i have friends that live abroad, what would the proceedures be if i was to visit them and teach them the ocean divers syllabus, how would they be signed off and certified as they would not be members of my branch? or known tho the DO, they could of course join bsac directly if going on to sports diver. any suggestions?

The only person who is authorised by the NDO to sign off Diver Qualifications is the individual?s ?A? Branch Diving Officer (the Branch that BSAC fees are paid through); for BSAC Direct that?s the Technical Department in HQ.

See BOH:
Section 3.3.1 Sub-section: Branch Diving Officer
Section 3.4.5 Sub-section: Dual Membership
Section 4.4.6: Awarding BSAC Diver Qualifications

Some of the issues that come to mind are based around surface support. If you are in the water with one or two of your friends, who is ?marshalling? (OD training must be organised), do they hold the appropriate qualifications (see Safe Diving Practises). You also need to bear in mind any ?local? laws related to dive instruction, not everywhere is as open as the UK. A review of BSAC Risk Assessments would also be of benefit to you.

It can be done, but takes planning.
