View Full Version : Snorkell and mask - and scuba
Have 2 trips to Egypt planned in December - I wanted to get a mask and snorkell to take with me or could buy out there - my question is where can I get a good set from and can you use the same set for Scuba??
I live in North west England so may have to buy off the internet - any help appreciated.

Hi Rixer
Don't buy a mask without trying it first. Not everyones face is the same size and shape so you need make sure it fits. Any good dive shop will advise you on this.
Mask and snorkle should be suitable for both scuba and snorkling. Have a good trip, am very jealous especially looking at the weather today!!

Wot he said. Also, have the snorkel in your mouth when you try the mask on. It will change the shape of your face slightly. :)
Enjoy the holiday.
Any good brands to go for? I cant think of any places close to me that sell the gear!!

A snorkel is just a piece of plastic pipe, go for simple, and you buy the best fit mask in the shop even if it is pink with frilly bits.
After and hour in the water a badly fitting mask becomes evil.
A mask that sticks to your face with no strap on and just the barest hint of a suck on your nose is what you want.
Then tighten the strap only enough to stop it drifting away with the tide.
If you find a really good mask and somebody puts a cylinder on it you kill them. No jury of divers would convict.
No.

What he said, definitely need to go to a shop and try
Tell us where you are and we can probably point you in the direction of somewhere to buy one

Based close to South Manchester - The other option is to wait until I arrive in Egypt - going to Makadi bay for 4 days then going to Sharm for 7 days - you thibnk I could pick up a deal there??

Another tip.
Get some toothpaste and run it on the inside of the lens on the mask for about 5 mintes once you get it, rub it hard, this will remove any silicone left on the lens. Wash it off by leaving the inside of the mask under a cold tap for 10 minutes and make sure all the toothpaste is gone.
This is not a wind up :)
If you can get a mask and snorkel before you go, you should get something decent and the dive shop should advise you.
Google ecclestone delph, thats not a million miles away from where you are and they have a good sealection.
Cheers,
Gareth.
