Hi, my name is Dave McBride, the newest dive charter skipper in Scillies working alongside Moonshadow and Movoren, my famous 35' boat is called Tiburon and operates from St.Mary's,in these glorious Islands
I am a complete begginner to this forum stuff but as I am fascinated with underwater photography and digital video thought I might give it a fling.
My last group of divers this year described diving in Scilly as AWESOME, initially I thought they said aweful so was quietly distraught.....
Very Briefly,my background is, yawn! Dragged into diving fairly early by my dad an Navy diver and archaeological diver who found a fantastic cannon site in 1969. The rest is history now, specialised in underwater photography, a short time in the RN worked in the North Sea, became a commercial diver ended up marooned here in Scilleis 20 years ago. Recently asked to join the other dive boat operators to take the overflow and only had to be asked once...
I hope that was brief enough, I would dearly like to exchange advice on video HD especially, and editing etc etc.
Cheers Dave, happy awesome diving

Dave

Welcome. Glad to hear the Scillies are still there. A month back I was on a flight and saw Lands End. I thought next the Scillies but ........ nothing. Thought global warming may have covered them up :)

Tell me for a beginner like me are there any good dive sites less than 20 ms?

And how warm is the water in summer? I promised myself never to do UK diving but thought perhaps the gulf stream might be rather kind there.

Perhaps you could post a few fotos as well?

Sorry getting very demanding here :D

Cheers

Nigel

Hi Dave,

Don't forget to tell everyone about the seals who clearly haven't read the book where it says don't play with the divers (or is it don't play with the wildlife?) :D Average depth for seal dives? oh about 5mts!
I will put some photos on our club site from the week we were with you. When I do I'll pm you but be ready for seal overload!

In answer to the previous question - the diving in the area is very varied but you might be frustrated with a 20m depth limit, I'd advise getting you sports Diver (or equivalent in your organisation) to give you a 35m limit and more choice.

Hi Nigel,
I would agree with Suzie who is an instructor of one of the Islands regular dive groups, it is a long way to come and be limited to shallow sites all week. Although all charters are contoured to the abilities of the group it would be a shame to miss out on some of the glorious mid range wrecks, reefs ,pinnacles and drop offs.
If you put divescilly into google you will see a short video of clps of diving here in Scillies on my website, hopefully Suzie might put her shots on the web, I am busy tearing my hair out trying to edit loads of new stuff to stick on DVD for prospective enquiries from new dive groups, also will upload some short clips shortly on to Youtube, some very amusing stuff too!
I have gone on far to long yet again. Good to hear from you hope to see you one day, if we can draw you away from the easy diving.

PS why not take a look at 'scilly seals 08' by Portways SAC on you tube,

Thanks Suzie,
What a wonderful end to the week that was, seal heaven, look forward to seeing the pictures, looking into adding a gallery page to our website, nothing too serious. I will send you a divescilly DVD once complete, let me know what you think.
We have rescued 2 pups in the last 3 weeks, named Skittles and Hubbard, one was 2 days old the other 5 dasys, in collusion with Gweek Seal Sanctuary and BDLMR, even got Heike the vet involved followed by 'Island Parish'...enjoy
