Hi, I've dived a handful of wrecks and would like to know what I'm looking at ( I can recognise big individual bits, but perhaps an idea of general layout, etc would be useful).

I've been thinking of the Wreck Appreciation course. Any useful / relevant Comments?

Talk to your fellow divers, and also (especially) the boat skippers - they will be full of useful information.

Look through back issues of the magazines - there was an article not so long ago called "anatomy of a shipwreck" - which you might like to read.

Read the wreck tours (divernet) of the wrecks you have/are diving, and buy local guide books with further information.

Perhaps consider a special interest wreck liveaboard in the red sea - some of the operators are now running weeks with visiting enthusiast, and are 'wreck hunting' with the clever toys like side scan sonar! They will invariably have a serious metal head on board, who will be there specifically to teach you as much as he/she can and you want to know about wrecks - hunting, diving, preserving etc etc.

Jump on the train and spend days and days in the Maritime Museum here in Liverpool. Learn Naval Architecture at your own pace.

Hi Paul,

If you can find someone in your branch who is an instructor and knows about wrecks, then I think the Wreck Appreciation Course should cover a lot of what you're interested in. They don't need to have done the SDC themselves, just be an OWI. We've been trying to find time to run one for our region, but it's not happened yet...
