Hello,
I am a Padi Dive Master which joined BSAC last year crossing over to Dive Leader Level.
I have started my Advanced Diver training but need maybe 2-3 month more to finish.
Now our region is planning to hold Instructor Foundation Course next moth.
I know that the requierments to participate are:
1. Current BSAC Member
2. Minimum Sports Diver Certification

And now the question to the wise ones is am I aligable to join the Instructor Foundation Course?

Consider that I have not completed any BSAC course till today.

Thanks for the advise.

Khaled

Khaled,

Yes, I can see how you are thinking. You haven't actually been awarded a BSAC diver qualification yet, but need one to qualify for the IFC. Your interest is appreciated, we can use every willing volunteer.

I suggest you do one of two things,
a) contact the local organiser for the IFC of your choice;
b) contact the "Instructor Training Scheme Manager" who you will find on < itsman@bsac.com >

Hope this helps,

Mike

Should be - I expect you just need the crossover certificate (which is in the training pack for crossovers I believe), but I know quite a few clubs don't use them. It's just a little A5 size bit of paper that your DO signs to say that you have done the extra bits you need about BSAC and that your diving is of suitable level to be a DL.
Ask your DO about it, or talk to BSAC HQ about what exactly you need to prove you are of a suitable level (which you certainly are if you've crossed over, its just checking what method is best to prove it).

Hi Khaled

My belief that for the IFC, you need to be:
1. a member of BSAC
2. a Sports Diver (you need to be Dive Leader to do the exams)

Given that you have embarked upon Advanced Diver, I assume that you have had the intro lectures and covered use of the BSAC-88 tables together with purchasing a Crossover Training pack showing that you crossed over as a PADI DM.

If this is the case, then you are entitled to embark on training as if you actually held the award of Dive Leader and so are entitled to attend the IFC and OWIC plus undertake the TIE and PIE exams

The IFC "does exactly what it says on the tin"

it is a course ...you attend it and get recognition for attending. There are no formal assessments involved ...just friendly constructive criticism from your tutor and your peer group (of 3 other course attendees)

The exams come later and are called
Theory Instructor EXAM
(Though you can take just the Knowledge ASSESSMENT part and skip the classroom presentation if you like)

after attending the IFC you can go on (if at DL level) to attend the Open Water Instrutor COURSE

after that you may take the Practical Instructor EXAM

Once you have passed the TIE (including the KA) and the PIE you are called an Open Water Instructor ...but you do need to pass the exams.

BSAC Instructor Trainer
(i.e. one of those who teaches/examines at this level)

John,
many thanks for the clear answer. Now i know what and in which order I have to do / attend.

The website does not state it in such a clear manner as you have explained it.

Many Thanks

Khaled
