Can an OWI who is also an Advanced Diver sign off Advanced Diver training in a diver's qualification record book, or does it have to be by an Advanced Instructor?

Some of the 2002 Syllabus skills are reserved to AI. Otherwise, and for assessments in the 1995 syllabus, AD / OWI is authorised. (It's what I've been doing with my DO's assent)

Have a read of the Instuctor Requirements for AD (page 357) in the Instructor Manual.

That is the definitive guidance for the NQI level required for each lesson.

Ian.

I may be worng, but listening to the VAST amount of divers i see, i read it as...

1) A dive leader who is an instructor can't sign off a A/D lesson.
2) A A/D who is a club instructor can't sign off a A/D Lesson.

Perhaps this is a good question to be asked on the 7 th Sept, Coz AFIK, no-one is quailified in your club to take or sign off any of the NEW ADVANCED DIVER stuff ;-|

There again i may have it all wrong , but would be intresting to find out ,,,,,,,

Why do you ask this question ?

Andy - got the answer on p357 of Instructor Manual. All AD training must be by instructors who are Advanced divers. They must be a minimum of Open Water Instructors, except for AT1 (The role of the Advanced Diver), AP1 (expedition planning) and AP2 (dive planning and marshalling) where they must be advanced instructors or assistant advanced instructors under on-site supervision of an advanced instructor.
