Probably not. Last time I heard SCUBA spear fishing was only allowed (in a major country) in parts of the US of A.

D'you think it could perhaps be a spoof? Have another, and critical, look at the clip.

I did not realise it was illegal!!

I knew it was frowned upon to use a spear gun
with scuba but I did not think it was illegal.

Cheers ozone

The crew looked a bit latin or perhaps Philipino to me.

Not good killing immature fish for fun. Creeps.

Well,

The boat is flying a Saudi Flag and has the name 'Jeddah' painted across the back (you can see it at the start of the clip). Soooo, I'm guessing that it wasn't what you would call 'traditional' Red Sea.

I know Jersey has some extra laws but it's legal in the UK.

Jersey/Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm, they invoke wonderful memories early 1970s style.

Here in Oz the rules on this are pretty strict, and succinct: spearing fish on SCUBA is illegal Australia-wide with varying, mostly very draconian (and rightly so) penalties. Some States allow the taking of crays (Victoria, Tasmania, South and Western Australia and some allow very restricted take of abalone, including NSW. In all, it's rigidly controlled.

Rightly so.

PS Pedants, please line up to the right of my shoulder.

I though it was outlawed in the UK not long ago.

There was a thread on this but don't seem to be able to find it

It is banned in Spain, even to have a spear gun and SCUBA in the same boat is an offence.

I found a bran new state of the art spear-gun, minus harpoon, last year and the skipper wouldn't let me on board with it.

When in the red sea in August there were many signs up saying an number of things which were prohibited. Dropping anchor and SCUBA Spear shooting being just a few. Wether it is punishable by law or ot is another matter
