"The Health and Safety Executive has produced a DVD called Diving Instructors, Roles, Responsibilities and Risk Assessment available free to instructors after 21 April from professional diver training organisations"

This sounds quite interesting, even though we aren't considered "professionals" in terms of remuneration, will BSAC be supplying these too ?
Cheers

More than interesting.

As we are a volunteer club, it's often easier than pro-outfits
to have non paid rescue divers etc. on site, so there really
isnt any reason why we cant follow HSE guidelines.

. for the information of all ....we are to be included

The DVD is aimed specifically at diving instructors and will therefore be distributed through trade bodies that form the British Diving Group. These are the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, British Sub-Aqua Club, Sub-Aqua Association, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. Any diving instructors who have not received the DVD should approach these bodies for a copy. Diving Instructors, Roles Responsibilities and Risk Assessments will be launched on 21 April 2004 at British Diving Group (members only) safety meeting in London.

2. The British Sub-Aqua Club ? Diving Incidents Reports (1999-2003) list 17 deaths in 1999; 17 in 2000; 22 in 2001; 14 in 2002; and 11 in 2003.

PUBLIC ENQUIRIES: Call HSE's InfoLine, tel: 08701 545500, or write to: HSE Information Services, Caerphilly Business Park, Caerphilly CF83 3GG.

There is much debate about whether BSAC instructors in clubs are 'professional' or not.

It was pointed out to me recently - how many clubs charge new, untrained divers and 'additional' premium. Irrespective of what this premium covers, they are essential paying the club for training!

The best bet is that clubs should do their utmost to comply with the HSE requirements, and then there can be no problems. cover you own...
