View Full Version : BCD repair escape valve

I've got a light weight ScubaPro BCD and it has a leak from an escape valve which is inconveniently positioned behind the lefthand side pocket. Now before I start to dismantle it I wonder if anyone can give me any guidance.

As I see it the leak could be
where the plastic valve meets the liner , the join
The valve itself
The bit that screws on the top with the cord and spring (well it won't be that then cause I could just replace it:( )

My questions:

Do these often spring a leak?
Can you buy a spare? (looked on scubapro but nothing obvious about spares).
Are they worth repairing? (it cost less than £40)
Do normal dive shops/centres do such work or is it a manufacturer job?

I saw here that a service might be £55 for a BCD but I guess if they find a leak they charge more (and why not). So if nothing else I can give it an ortopsy and learn a lot :D

Any valve you dump in salt water will leak eventually...

Spares will be available - whether or not they will deal with you individually depends on them. You might have to go through a shop - but a quick email couldn't hurt.

Ans it'll probably cost you 10 minutes of your time to refurbish. I'd say it's worth it...

Do normal dive shops/centres do such work or is it a manufacturer job?

Dive shops usually undertake this sort of thing.

So if nothing else I can give it an ortopsy and learn a lot :D

If it's out of warranty, you've probably got nothing to lose (unless you're *especially* ham-fisted).

If it helps, there are a number of exploded diagrams at Frogkick (http://www.frogkick.dk/manuals/scubapro/Schematics/BCD/)
