I went to Cayo Guillermo a couple of years back and had a bloody good time, albeit not much diving and quite a bit of drinking. Cost wise, well not cheap, but it was a 4 star almost all in affair (drinks and meals included, some other stuff not included).

After the recent bad weather over that way i have no idea what the resorts will be like, but you could chance it. You may even get a decent deal.

Diving wise it was your standard warm water, blue water, swim with much wildlife and cudas affair. Take your own kit, as some of the gear on offer left a lot to be desired (leaky first/second stages, etc). Also if you read the YD thread about the guy who got bent over there, you may want to really take it easy with the profiles and pad the hell out of everything. But its a nice place for diving. With nice reefs and much wildlife.

My sister did Cayo Coco 3 months back and said it was crap, with the service gone to hell. No towels in rooms, bed sheets changed every 10 days or so, food atrocious, etc, in fact the only good thing was the rum. This coming from someone who does Cuba every summer and has been for 6 years now. So i'd avoid that resort.

There are other places besides the Cayos, maybe look in the travel reports wherever they now are on the bsac site (maybe search google).

Had a family holiday there in July and was sadly disappointed, bad food, tip everyone service. In view of the price paid for 2 adults and a teenager total cost €5000 for 2 weeks in a 4* Hotel, yeah right, it was crap!
IMHO don't bother and it was cheaper cos we flew from germany and not here in Belgium. My 16 year old did a resort basic diver course with ACUC for €200 but his first dive feeding Sharks was at 25 metres for Gods sake and was told shush don't tell your Dad ffs!

Go to either:

http://www.bsac.com/diverreports.asp?section=1217&sectionTitle=The+Caribbean
or

http://www.bsactravelclub.co.uk/reports/index.html

Where you will find three reports about Cuba. Then tell all which of the above sites was the best for you. :p
