Many moons ago I qualified as a BSAC Club Instructor and I'm aware that I've been superceeded since my diving 'sabbatical'.
I kinda remember a window of opportunity, long since passed, when I was supposed to do 'something' to become 'something else'.
:)
If anyone knows what I'm on about can they tell me what I now need to do to become an Open Water thingamybob.

Unless things have changed recently, you remain a Club Instructor. I think, with some rerservations about OW lessons, you can take up where you left off. However, you will need to bone up on the current syllabus which is considerably different from that which you learned by and probably taught.
As to OWI, you've passed theory test (now a TIE) and classroom test so probaly a PIE will do it. There may still be the possibility of attaining OWI by logging OW instruction, I'm not sure.
I guess you are best talking to your DO, to Phil Clifton at HQ or to the OWI Chief Examiner. One thing we cannot afford is to waste instructor resource.

Thanks Mike
I think logging OW hours was the time limited opportunity that's since passed. I was fairly experienced particularly in the OW aspects of training.
I intended to contact BSAC in the week and just thought I'd give here a go as it's a sunday etc :)

Get yourself on an OWIC, Open Water Instructor Course, this will give you an idea of how things are taught these days in Open Water, then discuss with HQ whether you need to log any hours (used to be 12) or just get re-involved at a branch and get a letter from the D.O. confirming your active status.
But, Yes, get up to speed with the new syllabus........Acronyms abound, like SEEDS, STEP, PAVE, REAP :)
HQ will give you the definitive.

Your Club Instructor qualification is still valid, see Section 4.2.5 Who can Teach – and What? (http://www.bsac.com/page.asp?section=2046§ionTitle=Branch+Officers%27+Handbook+%2D+Who+c an+Teach+%96+and+What%3F) from the Branch Officers' Handbook
Club Instructor is a pre 2002 Qualified Instructor qualification, because no open water assessment was required. Club Instructors are not permitted to supervise Assistant Diving Instructors, Assistant Open Water Instructors or Practical Instructors at open water locations. However, they are permitted to teach open water lessons (to their diver qualification) without the need for another Qualified Instructor to be present.
As others have said you most likely would benefit from an update as a few things have changed. Also you might ask HQ about the 2008 Instructor Manual (which is now free to all Qualified Instructors and on CD).

Peter,
Please see -
http://www.bsac.org/uploads/documents/NDC_Bulletin/ndcbull48.pdf
(BSAC NDC E-Bulletin - January 2007 Issue 48)
"One update that we have made this year (announced at the Diving Officer's Conference) is to try to encourage
Club Instructors to move up to Open Water Instructor (OWI) level. Whilst Club Instructor (CI) remains a valid
instructor grade it is one that is no longer issued and so will gradually become less familiar to the membership. To
move from CI to OWI all that is needed is to attend an Open Water Instructor Course (OWIC) and then have a
branch officer confirm the instructor is involved in providing regular teaching with this the OWI award will be made.
If you are an active CI please consider following this route as it will also help you refresh your skills as well as
boosting the pool of BSAC Open Water Instructors."
Hope this helps.
Enjoy your instructing.

You are not alone, am similar - CI, been away and now come back. As the advice says above: book on a course (refresher) and get back into it with your club.
Welcome back.
