Sonia,

I'm just a very ordinary member of these Forums, not even a BSAC member.

Your first post was met by silence but this one requires some form of a response.

This is the BSAC and you are naive enough to think that you can advertise on their pages? Have you looked at the rules here? Or don't you even know that Forums, of whatever persuasions, have those? Really?

Oh, and what did "Alex5", the one-time poster have to do with the your first post tagged onto his? Bah!

If you have a new publication coming out, why not be honest about it?

We are keeping a very close eye on it :) The mods and sysadmins try to take a relaxed view, if it's a commercial post about something like a new UK dive charter boat, a new dive related business... we tend to let it go. It could be of interest to our members and other divers. BUT, and it's a very big but, cross that line between information and commercial SPAM and it gets binned.

It is for the mods and ultimately Ben to make the call, but personally I now consider this poster right on that line.

Silly woman. If you have to rely on spaming rivals then you don,t have anything worth looking at. Suggest you keep the forum clear for genuine peops and take up something like knitting.(no offence to knitters)

Give it a chance I say...y'all moan about Dive all the time maybe this is a chance to influence a fledgling mag and help turn it into a true dive mag and not just nice photos of exotic locations and yarns of living in a shed in Scotland written only to fund the new flashing to stop the leaks.... cynical..maybe... Monty is an OK guy but a can't remember the last article of interest he wrote...

Let me be equally cynical by suggesting that any specialist magazine is going to be exotic. My favourite motoring magazine is your "CAR" and I don't read it for the comparisons of the latest littlies which rarely populate its pages but vicariously for the exotics that are in every issue but which are way beyond my pocket. Kind of like buying Penthouse for the articles although I did buy an issue about 15 years ago - a friend of mine had a cave diving article in it.

Thanks for the sensible words. I don't work for DIVE but I did work for PENTHOUSE once! I often liken the complaints here about the club's mag (whichever it might be) as coming from the sort of people who like looking at mags like READER'S WIVES! What's wrong with being aspirational? We'll all be dead one day so try to bring some sparkle into your lives. I went diving near the Isle of Wight last week. The rain was torrential and we were all miserable and the vis was non-existent. That may be typical in the UK but it doesn't make a good story, does it?

Sadly not. The INSIDE of my drysuit was wet from getting changed into it in the carpark at the marina.

Readers wives..wooee John we have the internet for that kind of thing nowadays ;)

There is nothing wrong with being inspirational at all but I would prefer input into things I do on a regular basis from a mag rather than just things I might do once.

I read the mag my wife gets from the British horse society and it is 90% relevant to everyday horse care and enjoyment as is in this country and 10% exotic treks through Mongolia. It is this lack of balance that is my main gripe with all dive mags not just Dive

But I bet that most UK based horse riders ride in the UK, and relatively few ride abroad, whereas it's the converse with diving.

Diver etc exist to make a bit of money for their owners. If my main job was flogging dive mags then I'd target the holiday market too.

Is it really so converse? 98% of my diving is UK based....

You've got the excellent NDC Bulletin for that.

Don't be daft.,It's problematic enough getting all my dive gear into a golf bag to check it in and get it past the airport Gestapo. Where would I put the horse!

My own, not very scientific guess, is at least 5:1. My estimate is based on the number of divers I know who work for the same organisation as me. I've only ever met two UK divers, but know at least 10 people who are semi-active holiday divers. (Ie I'm ignoring those that have just done a try dive).

Not very scientific, and a small sample size, but there you go.

Hasn't every issue of Dive had a shark in it. Maybe worth giving another mag a chance?

Sounds like a good opportunity to advertise your club for free.

It's been said in later posts on this thread, that the majority of divers dive overseas, so anything to boost diving in the UK is welcome in my book.

Use a pony, they tend to be smaller! :D
