Welcome to the wonderful world of diving? Congrats on the cert!:) There must be many clubs around, BSAC and others too. Check them all out and find one that suits your style of diving and get in with some active divers.

If you joined a BSAC branch your CMAS1 would be equivelent to our Ocean Diver. This would mean you can dive on your existing qualification & start training as a BSAC Sports Diver.
See here (http://www.bsac.org/page/276/sports-diver.htm#top) for Sports Diver Overview.
To find a local branch look here (http://www.bsac.org/page/22/bsac-branches-by-region.htm#top).

Hi, BSAC went into the wilderness on CMAS (some sort of bickering). So now CMAS is done through SAA. However a previous juxta post on here confirms that a Sports Diver with 10 plus dives is a CMAS 2 star, soooooo I assume the same is true in reverse (as a sports diver with les than 10 is presumably a CMAS 1 star). As a note I got a CMAS card when the systyyem was first set up and despite having 100+ varied dives, my BSAC ADI and most elements of my DL the card stated CMAS 1*??????? Best to make reference to the CMAS site and contact BSAC and SAA directly to find out what they are doing.

I am sure this appears elsewhere but the back of my BSAC Diver Qualification card states:
Ocean Diver - CMAS * Diver
Sports Diver - CMAS ** Diver
Dive Leader - CMAS ** Diver
Advanced Diver - CMAS *** Diver
First Class diver - CMAS **** Diver

Once again you are incorrect.
CMAS started out as a mechanism for the agencies from different countries (only one per country) to get some idea of equivalence to their own grading structure. It is only recently that CMAS has started to award qualifications itself, in the UK that’s though the Centre for Marine and Coastal Archaeology, Bournemouth University; not the SAA.
Yes, the SAA are the CMAS representatives for the UK if you want to carry a CMAS equivalence card.
The BSAC ADI has got nothing to do with DIVING grades and its NOT an instructor grade either. Diver qualifications have got nothing to do with the number of dives you have undertaken, they’re based on your ability to perform specific skills and demonstrate appropriate knowledge. If you meet the criteria you get the grade, if not you don’t (and you didn’t).
