I know that they are afiliataed to CMAS in a big way (all those
French Canadians) so if you find the CMAS equivilent it
should give you a good crossover reference to BSAC via SALT.

Try this.

I had a ACUC & a SNSI (SCUBA Nitrox Safety International)diver turn up at our club this summer.

They had both qualified whilst on holiday in Cuba.

Both organisations are affiliated to RSTC (European Scuba Training Council) along with some other lesser known diving agencies (www.rstc-eu.org)

As regards cross-overs, I contacted BS-AC HQ. The response was that we sould assess these divers in the pool/classroom using
our discretion, look for key skills & teach CBL.

In addition I would insist on drysuit training in the pool then 2 open water dives in a drysuit. If all skills competent/confident, would ask the D.O to SALT the individul
to Ocean Diver.

Just had a thought ....

If you can be more specific as to the ACUC grade you want
parity with BSAC, I can ask an ACUC/CMAS/PADI/BSAC Instructor
I know.

Hi Steve,

A quick question, why OD? they must have some record of their level and depth/diving limitations, why not cross then over to a more suitable and useful grade that matches their level?

Regards

Paul

Uhh, a bit along the lines of Terrys next post.

Hi Paul, The reason I decided that the AC-UK diver should Salt
over to OD was because he went to Cuba and did his first ever
diver training course over a week. Subject to assesing core
skills and addind CBL/ dry suit training, I don't think there
was much choice ?

Would be interesting to see if Terry could develop a comparison table re. the higher grades within AC-UK re.BS-AC ? The thing is, there are a lot of European diving agencies that most UK instructors have probably never heard of. The chances are that we will get more and more cross-over requests from divers who have trained with these agencies. The RSTC link I sent you says it all. I passed this link to BS-AC HQ a while back and expressed suprise that BS-AC was not a member. The response back was: "Thanks for the weblink just added a whole load of dive agencies to the data base we were not aware of" I hope/suspect this was an indivdual's statement and not an official BS-AC statement.

I will be working with the said ACUC/CMAS/PADI/BSAC Instructor
at the NEC and will work out some parity.
They will be accurate, but of course you will need to check
with BSAC if you are actually going to use them for a SALT
xover.

Will post on 16th November.
