Hey guys, looking at buying a computer and possibly a BCD/small wing.
I need something relatively cheap but capable and have seen that cochran computers namely the commando are fairly affordable.
However, I have also noticed they aren't very conservative, give you lots of little deep stops and have questionable reliability (much like the apeks quantum I was looking at).
I know everyone will shout GEKKO!! within 10 minutes but I'd really like; backlight, safety stops at 6m, gas switching as a capability for the future if possible (though trimix won't be needed for a good few years)
User repalceable batteries would be handy too.
Any recommendations?
Thanks.

I dont know much about Cochran computer, but if you are looking to use helium one day then i guess you'll be look at the EMC 20-H. I know of no-one that uses them.

The other alternative i guess is a VR3, then upgrade it as you add more skills.

If on the other hand you only see yourself doing nitrox for the next 3-4 years then maybe something like a Vyper2 or Vytec would suffice until you find the need for something a bit more powerful.

Suunto Vytec DS.

- Air
- Nitrox
- Nitrox 1 or 2 stage mixes (3 mix)
- Dtimer mode for Trimix & runtime tables.
- Deep Stops

Cheers

suunto vyper - buy the old non-2 version for £cheap & then run in gauge mode with tables when you want to go to gas-switching

or

suunto vtec - buy the old non-DS version for £cheap, read up about Pyle stops & put in your own deep stops
