Wikipedia (the free online encyclopedia) http://www.wikipedia.org is a free
encyclopedia that is collaboratively edited by volunteers from around
the world.
I've added some dive site info and added them to a category. Categories are a way to group related pages. If you fin over to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Underwater_diving_sites_in_the_United_Kin gdom
You can see a growing list (currently 47) of dive sites in the UK. Here is where it gets really interesting - if you know more about the site you can add more info.
But if you want to add useful diving info (launch sites, expected vis etc) then the wiki custodians might consider that is not "encyclopedic" and might remove it. Step in the BSAC wiki...
http://www.bsacforum.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Shipwrecks
This lists loads of wrecks on the south coast along with GPS info. Some of the wrecks have their own page which then in turn link back to wikipedia.
You can sign up for a free acccount on the BSAC wiki and add more info. Each page has a main page (for the M2 sub this is at http://www.bsacforum.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=M2_Submarine) which is like an entry in a dive guide book. Each page also has (for the M2 sub this is at http://www.bsacforum.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Talk:M2_Submarine) which is a great place to put trip reports etc.
You can even upload photos on to the BSAC wiki to make articles even more interested.
Wiki editing is quite simple. Just type in to the box. If you want to link pages, have bold text etc there is a quick cheat sheet at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Cheatsheet
Happy editing
