after trawling the bsac web site i am confused as to what qualification you need to teach at each levle,
and as we ara a small branch and out resident instructors still think novis 1 and 2 are going i will ask here for expet advice

i have booked the ifc course and understand that the next step is to do the:-
tie
owic
pie

but do i have to log any hours between each stage?
what can you teach when you have compleated all the above
and am i an owi after compleating them?


also what do you need to be to teach dl?

NO. Logging hours is a legacy issue. If you do the all the current courses as you correctly list them you get your NQI qual.

Without wishing to confuse you, you can (apparently) get a PI(OWI) number by
IFC
OWIC
PIE
Theory paper.

However I tried to do this, passed my PIE in April but have to wait until November (next exam within 100 miles) to do a TIE in order to take the theory paper. What a shame I could not instruct in OW for the last 5 months for want of a 1 hour multi guess. Lets just hope I can make/get a date in November, and don't lose interest in BSAC / Instructing in the meantime.

Am I bitter, of course not, there must be a perfectly good reason why there is no way to do a Theory paper at an OWIC, PIE, in my branch, in the area coaches branch, someones living room...Answers on a postcard please!

You can teach up to your current grade so DL + PI to teach the inwater DL skills.

I quite agree. Perhaps the Area Coach could set something up for you. If it's only the multi choice exam, then perhaps the Area Coaching tean could come up with a creative way of getting you over that last hurdle. Perhaps somebody (Keith?) could pursue with/bring to attention of somebody at HQ?
