I've recently got re-involved with club instruction. I am an Advanced Diver with no Instructor qualification. The BSAC 2002 Instuctor Manual states that the instructor requirements for teaching Sports diver Courses (practical and theory) can be dive leader under on-site supervision. For the Dive Leader course, the requirement is a NQI only. I read this that Advanced Divers cannot teach practical or theory on Dive Leader courses. Any comments? Is this not inconsistent?
Thanks,
Gareth

At any grade new skills/knowledge are to be introduced by an instructor.
The following are the minimum requirements:
* Ocean Diver - Sports Diver + Assistant Diving Instructor (under supervision of Nationally Qualified Instructor)
* Sports Diver - Sports Diver + Assistant Diving Instructor (under supervision of Nationally Qualified Instructor)
* Dive Leader - Dive Leader + Assistant Open Water instructor (under supervision of Nationally Qualified Instructor)
* Advanced Diver - Advanced Diver + Nationally Qualified Instructor (some elements require a minimum of Advanced Instructor)
The practise of skills taught can be done by a DL or AD who isn't also an instructor, but it is practise not learning new skills.
