Hi All

Names Brian And i'm From Hebburn, Tyne and Wear(any neighbours?) and Been reading the forums for a few weeks now so i thought id say HELLO.

I qualified as a Padi Open water diver about 8 years ago and only managed a few dives before a sudden onset of new CHILD and i could not really afford to continue, THEN the wife got cancer(she's ok) that stopped me for anoth few years BUT now im BACK

Anyway Now financially ok and the daughter is at an easier age to manage, if thats at all possible with kids and the wife is doing great SO i decided to go back Via BSAC and im busing crossing over to the Ocean Diver grade. Just got my own kit and looking forward to giving it a thrashing.

Just as i started to do The crossover course i found out i was a type 2 diabetic, I don't need any medication(at the Moment) and have managed to get the Ok from a dive referee at the Freeman Hospital. Phew that was lucky, just my luck after all these years of waiting to get the boot at the last moment again.

Was just wondering are there any other diabetics out there, If so is there anything i need to be aware Of?

Anyway im waffling, Hope to meet up with some of you guys on future dives.

Brian

Hi

Thanks for the reply, i had stumbled upon those links and they were very helpfull.

Not expecting any problems with the diabetes, as im not on medication then its impossible to have a hypo underwater SO nowts a problem. Would be interesting to hear from other diabetics to see what they do.

Im not feeling totally confident at the moment so my dives will be under my advised limits for now so it should not be that much of a hardship staying 20 - 30 meters max.

Was hoping to get a few dives of SUNNY South Shields or maybe St Marys in the next few weeks BUT because they have started Dredging for the new Tyne Tunnel they reckon that the Vis is appaling Cant see your hand in front of your face Sounds like its going to be a trial by fire the first few refresher dives.

Anyway thanks for the warm welcome, hopefully i will be able to add my words of wisom to the boards when i gain more experiance.

Is this a big problem? Is it possible that the effect will be seen further up the coast?

Just asking cos we are doing the Farne Islands (well dunstanbrough) later on this month.

Hi
Im no expert but it should be ok up at the Farnes, Im sure there must be some local lads on the board who will be able to give a better idea as to how far the silt is floating out to sea.

Just back from the Farnes, no sign of silt. :D
