Does anyone have any recommended articles or reading for propspective instructors. Teaching techniques, background reading, that kind of thing.
thanks

Do the IFC, on that you will be given the teaching scuba book- read it.
Also read the instructor manual it contains lots of useful info.
Look at the Dive Instruct web site and join the associated egroup

James,
I offer in addition to Pete's answer -
1 Look up the refresher programme "Scubawise", so you become aware of your own strengths and weakness.
2 Re-read any diving manual you have, and equip yourself with the latest edition(s).
3 Look out the Kogan-Page "in a week" series of books. There used to be issues dealing with Presentation Skills, Time Management, Coaching and Mentoring, all of which are crucial for successful instruction.
4 Take every opportunity to see how other Branches do things.
5 Never, ever, assume anything.
6 Always ensure that every learning experience is a pleasure for you as much as the trainee(s).
Keep all those balls in the air and you'll be the best instructor on the planet.
HTH,
Mike
