Hi All,

One of my fellow ABI's said the other day, that there was a time limit on our 'ticket to instruct' as an ABI. This being dependant on long it was since last runnning, or assisting, in a BH Course.
I've looked at the various pages on this website, but can't find anything relevant.

Anyone know the current situation of this?
TIA

Peter,

I know that O2 Admin is restricted in this way (must be used before 3rd anniversary, at least). I don't know of such a restriction to ABI. However, a direct question of Technical Services will prompt an early and definitive reply.

Thanks Mike,
But does anyone know the mail address of the Tech Services? Unfortunately there is not a link on the home page for queries!

I think you will find that the O2 admin has no such restrictions.

You may be interested to know that the requirements to instruct on the Oxygen Administration SDC course have changed. It is now the case that all that is required is to be a full Open Water Instructor and have attended and successfully completed the Oxygen Administration Course. There is no longer a need to participate and assist in the delivery of the SDC prior to becoming qualified to instruct.

This is due to the changes in the Dive Leader syllabus and the inclusion of oxy admin within it. Oxygen administration can now be taught 'in-house' by branches with suitable equipment and instructors ie. an OWI having completed the Oxy admin course. As there cannot be two sets of regulations regarding the teaching of oxygen administration 'in-house' or on SDC's the same instructing requirements have been adopted.

The same rules apply to Practical Rescue Mangement, but not Nitrox or boat handling SDC's

Earlier in the year I clarified this with BSAC head office contacting Mike Clack, who confirmed the changes with Alisdar Renoulds.

I hope this information is useful as it may increase the number of people who can instruct on oxy admin and PRM SDC's
