I'm sure this must've been covered umpteen times before, but a forum search turns up nothing.

The recommended first choice Hotel Mountbatten is full for the w/e in question and I blanched at the suggestion of a popular ale-house that boasts "... a washbasin in every room.", but which must surely get pressed into regular service as a urinal!

Are there any other 'walking distance' options in Turnchapel, and if not where else would folks suggest? A simple B+B with en suite would be nice, or even further out Novatel/ Ibis cheapo hotel types if the drive in, and subsequent parking in Turnchapel is straightforward enough.

Whilst I've stayed in some shocking 'diver's doss-downs' in my time, it will be my partner's first dive trip so I'm keen to make a good impression. Any pointers (on where to stay that is : ) would be much appreciated.

The diver-dross hotels i know only too well  Lat time (Last September) I went to plymouth we stayed at a B+B called the lamplighter bout £25.00 per night. Wasn't 5 star luxury but it was clean, warm and did a good breakfast. Just back from the Hooe so a 15-20 min drive to the Mountbatten centre but easy walk in the evening for a beer :D sorry dont have tel No or email but look it up on the web

I don't know if the ale-house you refered to was the Boringdon Arms, but it's a brilliant pub - amazing beer and food. A mate of mine who moved down here was lodged there temporarily and he loved it.

If you were travelling on foot, you have the option of taking the water taxi from the Mountbatten pub into the Barbican. Youre then spoilt for choice with cheap B+Bs on Citadel Road or faceless budget hotels in Cattedown. However, if you're driving, it's a bit of a long way round to get to the city centre.

Finally - Google is your friend. Found this one, which seems to tick all your boxes: http://plymouth-mount-batten-acc.com/
