How do I add an icon to a new thread after I posted it

I am trying to add an icon to this post first time round to try it out, but I forgot on my last post and when I went in to edit it the icon was added to the post and not to the thread.. I expect it is too late in that case ...

Yep too late, you can only edit the post not the thread.
