Hi
Haven't dived there but you could have a look at this site and try emailing them for details of the diving. I am not recommending this operator - can't as I have no personal knowledge either way - but at least they can help you out and you can get a feeling for what they're like.

From what I know, the best diving in the area is around some off shore islets called Los Frailes. Margarita has wonderful sandy beaches which may mean that the sites around the island suffer from poor viz due to the sand. Anyway, clearly there is diving available, so good luck and have a great time. It would be very good if you could write up a short report on it when you get back for the website so that other club members can benefit from what you find out. Nothing fancy reqd - couple of paras, a picture (topside preferably) or two if you can manage. send it to

yes we have dived on margarita,& not bad too.Sue & I had a ten day package,in 2002.As has been mentioned the main dive site is the island of Los Frailes, about a 40 minute boat transit from lower down the coast(towadrs the airport at Polimar).I would think it's about 45 minutes from your hotel.
The main dive sites are typical reef dives but with plenty of fish life & the oysters on the boat home aren't bad either
The dive company we used & would recommend is Aquanauts &
there web ad is www.aquanauts.com.ve The best contact is Jesus
pronounced Esuess& the boss was Ruele

Had our honeymoon on Margarita in June last year, found booking dive trips difficult as it was low season. My advice would be to book before hand as the telephones lines are poor on the island and your not guaranteed to get anyone who speaks good english.
We ended booking a 2 day dive package for Los Frailes, the coral was good although a little patchy with average viz, some places suffered more than others from coral bleaching. I would take care with valuables as we have money go missing on our dive boat, I would recommend Los Roques instead as the coral is better with more marine life and better viz.
We stayed at hotel costa-caribe which was one of the better hotels on the island, would also recommend horse riding and 2 day trip to angel falls/ orinoca delta. If you would like any further info etc please contact me also have pics.

We would love to have a trip report from you about your holiday on Margarita for the website. It would be such a big help to members looking for advice on where to go on holiday. It doesn't have to be anything fancy - a page of text and a couple of photos, particularly dryside photos, would be fantastic. Send any photos as jpg attachments if poss. As an extra incentive, we are about to launch a reward for each trip report published of a ?15 BSAC voucher. So, to get one, send me your report at

Thanks in anticipation
