Hi All,
We are planning a trip to South Africa this May/June.
Does anyone have any recommendations/advice/suggestions about Great White Shark Cage Diving? Operators to use or avoid, Hints or tips, links or telephone numbers.
All comments greatfully received.

Aye Martin,
Give Dennis Guichard a tap up! He's a South African living over here (UK) who used to work the South African coast (as a NAUI Instructor) from the Cape up to the Natal coast around Aliwal Shoal, Sodwana Bay and Protea Banks. He's got loads of contacts and should be able to sort you out mate. You can reach him at his email address here:

Hope that helps mate! Enjoy.

Just got back from diving in South Africa and Mozambique where I took the opportunity to do a cage dive.
Despite being out of season (70% chance of seeing great whites) we ended up seeing five different individuals. Can't recommend the outfit I went with highly enough (www.white-shark-diving.com). Everything about them was first class.
Be careful which outfit you go for as, judging by the boats and kit, some certainly look better than others.
Enjoy.

We visited SA in June 2001 and had awesome diving with the following:
<a href="http://www.whitesharkdiscovery.com/" > <a href="http://www.whitesharkdiscovery.com/" >http://www.whitesharkdiscovery.com/</a></a>
who will arrange accommodation in Gansbaai and take you cage diving at Dyer Island. The largest Great White we saw was 4-1/2 meters!
We did 5 days diving ? 2 days at Gansbaai and 3 at Shelley Beach diving with the Sand Tigers, who gather at that time of the year in hundreds for breeding on the Protea Banks. We also saw Hammers and Bulls. The famous sardine run also happens at that time. The Sand Tigers were 3-1/2 meters long and we were lying with them on the bottom at 30 meters. These people are excellent dive operators, and will arrange accommodation for you:

Enjoy ? I'd go and do it all again! The South Africans were extremely hospitable and we were well looked after at both places.

Thanks for the info Colin.
We've booked with White Shark Ecoventures (www.white-shark-diving.com) in Cape Town and Coral Divers (www.coraldivers.co.za) over at Sodwana in Kwazulu Natal.
We'll post details of how the trip went when we get back
Martin
