Hi, Folks,
Pleased to say just got my welcoming letter from BSAC and a DVD. But didn,t get a membership number. Am i right in assuming that i don,t get a number till i pass my Sports Diver , or, is it just sent in a different way.
would like to use number on this forum to show that i,m genuine and not just some guy with bias towards another organisation.

Have you joined BSAC direct or a branch?

If you have joined a branch, there is a delay between joining the branch) & the BSAC) & the membership cards being returned to the branch membership secretary (who should then forward the membership card to you).

I'm not sure of the procedure for BSAC direct.

If you have joined the BSAC you WILL recieve a membership card & a membership number.

If you are joining BSAC direct, give HQ a call for clarification. Tel 0151 350 6256

IIRC, it is possible to get training via a BSAC Centre without becoming a BSAC member.

i joined a branch/club and am also paying a professional instructor to teach me S Diver.

If you have joined the branch you should have a receipt from the branch (which I believe will include a BSAC reciept including your details). The branch will send the documentation (& payment to HQ), who will then process it & return the membership card to the branch, the branch should then present you with the membership card.

It is not unusual for a number of months to pass before you get your membership card. It is dependent on when the membership secretary sends in his returns, when he gets the cards back from HQ & then when he next sees you.

If you do have any concerns, check with your membership secretary when he sent in the paper work & when he expects the cards back.
If you are not happy with this, talk to HQ (details in the previous post).

How long ago is it since you joined?

I got my DVD and welcome letter in a week or so, but it was a few weeks after that that I got given my membership card from the club
