View Full Version : Scuba Diving and Hayfever
How well do they go together?
Last week I've been suffering really bad, constantly sneezing, blowing my nose every 30 seconds, but this week with the help of beconase and claratyn, it seems to be much more under control.
I was just wondering if anyone else suffers, and does it hold you back from diving, since its not really a cold, and my nose isnt bloked up?
Im sure there are others in the same place as me

Never held me back, in fact the opposite - I can't wait to get into the water and get some de-pollen air.
I guess some might have equalising issues, but I never had any issue at all while suffering.
And when the pollen count has been really high I have pulled a cylinder out of the garage and laid on the settee sucking away off a reg!

Im sure there are others in the same place as me :confused:Banged out of my head on tablets (like air at 40 meters) at the moment but diving is an utter relief. The hay fever drops away at sea and breathing nice filtered air for and hour or so does wonders for me. I drip like a tap but never bung up so equalising has never been a problem.
What I want is a nice southerly breeze. There is no grass south of me for a long way.
I get really bad hayfever, but have never had a problem when diving.
Incidentally, the nasal sprays are generally far more effective than the tablets if you take them regularly, but take a little while to be fully working (I used to work in the area).
I know that beconase is fine for diving. I've no idea about clarityn.

I also suffer quite badly with hayfever. Thankfully, I dont suffer with it when I'm at sea.
I do try and stay off the Zirtak when I'm diving though.

I don't have a problem when I'm at the coast - but somewhere like Stoney Cove can cause problems. I treat it the same as a cold, if I can clear it's OK. I asked someone about it when doing my first self certs - as long as it's a non-drowsy tablet then it should be fine.
