Am off to the Farnes with my dive club in July. Will probably be my first diving experience in UK waters. I am going primarily for the seal diving!
I just have a few questions if anyone can help answer for me-

does anyone have nay photos of previous club trips to the farnes
what is the viz like
as I am a relatively new diver is the diving 'easy'
has anyone done anyphotography there and if so do i need to get a strobe or will my white balanve suffice

thanks in advance

Hi Todor

Yes great place to dive, its quite easy depending on what Your diving, lots of shelter and You can usualy find somewhere to dive.
Viz can be great, but like anywhere else its subject to conditions.
You may get a bit of interaction with the Seals but You dont get that all the time.
Pleanty of sea life there and lots of nice flora and forna.

The wreck of the Somali is there, but I would say You wont be doing it as its between 28 and 30 mtrs deep, so thats for another time.but there is lots to see at 20 and shallower.

I would say that You wont need a strobe as it should be ok in July.

Have a good trip,

Mark

Thanks, Mark. Much appreciated. I am not too keen on deep diving, as I get narked at 24m!!
No doubt I will be posting my pictures onto this site when I return.

I've got some here, mixed in with a general trip report - all above surface, though, as I had no camera then...

All the local skippers are, in my opinion, bloody brilliant at knowing where they can put you depending on prevailing conditions and your skill level. I've been a few times now and have almost had trips wrecked by the weather but saved by a good skipper who knew where the quiet water would be. This does mean that dives can be a bit challenging at times, but if it's been calm for a week or so it's a corking place to dive.

Try my club :-) gallery here..

Latest photos were November so seals were good, but vis was not..

There is diving for all levels, including plenty of beginner stuff in the Farnes. Vis is usually very good in the summer (I've seen up to 20m).
