seems that all the underwater comms systems available at the moment require the use of a full face mask, does anyone know of any system that uses a throat microphone?
seems to me, though no expert, it would have several advantages; easier to dry seal, no ffm needed, and helium wouldn't (?) have any effect.

Have you tried talking with a reg in your mouth? Rebreather divers talk to one another a lot... Well shout distortedly. Even then after much shouting and gesticulating we resort to the wet notes. A throat mike, I have used them but only on motorbike to motorbike radio, distorts a lot but at least it starts from good.
Actually I saw quite a nice system where you have a pod that seals to your face and it 'concertinas' so you could take the reg out of your mouth, speak in air and then put it back. It was on a USA website so it might be vapour-ware.
