Hi,
I saw Fiona's thread asking you to consider becoming an RNLI member and thought I'd post this for your consideration too :-)
I'm a member of Vale Royal Sub Aqua Club in Cheshire (BSAC 1238), been diving for just over 15 years... An Advanced Diver / Open Water Instructor and became an RNLI Offshore member after a sailing accident last year. You can read more about that here if you want - http://www.hursthouse.eu ...Fortunately the BSAC training kicked in at the time and recognising the 'incident pit' I called the coastguard for help and was attended to by the Abersoch lifeboat crew who brought both myself and dinghy safely back to shore.
It brought home to me not only how good the BSAC training is but also what a fantastic volunteer service we have in the RNLI and I've since become a staunch supporter.
I've been given one of the RNLI's charity assured places for this years Great North Run on the 5th October and will be running in this event to raise funds and to say thanks to the RNLI for being there to assist... I've created a donation page via the Just Giving website - http://www.justgiving.com/daves-rnli-run. The run is supported by the Abersoch lifeboat crew... http://www.rnliabersoch.co.uk/news.htm
So if you'd like to support the RNLI but perhaps the off shore membership is too much right now, you might like to consider sponsoring me instead? ;-)
Thanks in advance for any support, no matter how small!
Cheers,
Dave.
