hey ive just started doing my GCSE media course, and i was hoping that i would be able to take a video camera down to stoney cove to do some filming there ... the on thing is ive never touched a under water video camera in my life! :(
so i was just wondering what sort of kit would i need and could i rent/buy it?
thanks for the help.

Type underwater video rental into google for a start. Terry Reynolds runs a company called Underwater Camera Hire. That will get you sorted.
You will be looking at around £100 per day if memory serves.

Another alternative would be to buy a compact digital stills camera and stick it in an underwater housing. The video function on many of these is excellent.
I have a Canon Ixus 70, which produces near-DVD like quality. You might also consider the Fuji F30.
If you shop around, you should be able to get a camera and housing for £200.
I'm pretty confident I could use mine to produce a good video project. The only drawback is that it doesn't have a light, but it still manages to come up with pretty good footage, even when the ambient light is low.

That is a good and much cheaper idea..
And lights can always be bolted on, you'd have to get them for a video-camera anyway

I have a Canon Ixus 70, which produces near-DVD like quality. You might also consider the Fuji F30.
I know absolutely zero about video but I like to think I know a little bit about still photography.
The Fuji F30/F31, the minor difference is that the F31 has face recognition technology, is one of the finest cameras made within its price/performance category. The "bad" news is that it has now been superseded by the F50 and F100 and is no longer available new unless you happen to be dead lucky about that.
The good news is that the F50/100 are nowhere near as good as the F30/31 because Fuji has finally succumbed to the pixel wars (http://www.yorkshire-divers.com/forums/underwater-video-photography/64746-pixels.html). The further good news is that there are going to be not a few people who should (but don't - happy snappers) know better who seem to think that more pixels is better than less (when they're not even pixels anyway) and who are therefore going to "upgrade", which means that a sensationally good (within its price/performance parameters) camera should now be coming onto the market second hand.
So right now you should be able to pick up one of these itty bitty baby toys at a pretty reasonable second hand price as well as be assured that you have better than the current Fujis. Talk about win/win - if I were in that market that's exactly what I'd be doing.
Caveat: I have absolutely no idea how well it does in the video area, that's simply not my bag.
I'm, incidentally, indebted to a friend for pointing this out to me, it wasn't my original idea but it's a beauty! Wolfy and young Wolfy, I'd go for that if I were in your shoes :), at least at the end of the day you own the equipment.
