:( Were you at Capernwray yesterday and went home with an extra 12litre steel faber Cylinder

It's yellow, with black and white quarters, and a handle. It also has either my name (P. Brown) or my initials (PAB) on it in black marker pen.

I put it in for a fill at about 12:30 and that was the last I saw of it.

If you have it (or know where it is, please PM me)

Thanks

Sorry, can't help, but just to say - hope whoever it is realises and gets it back to you.

I have often wondered how common this sort of thing is - at busy filling stations it usually seems to work on trust/common sense and I, like most others, just leave my cylinder in a line and go off for lunch...

I've just spoken to Chris @ Capernwray and he has a yellow 10ltr with black and white quarters and a handle that was left on Sunday; so the honest mistake theory seems to be holding up

I will contact him again on Friday.

Please could any schools who were there check their cylinders and let me know if they have mine?

Hope it turns up - would like to think it was an honest mistake.

Same thing happened to me at Stoney last year. I ended up taking someone else's 12L cylinder back with me - so we did a straight swap - apart from the test date being shorter. My new cylinder now has lots and lots of markings on it to make sure the "mistake" of an honest swap doesn't happen again (fingers crossed).

My tanks are so scratched & battered that they are uniquely identifiable as mine and nobody would want to steal them anyway, seems to work :D

Glad you got/will get your tank back!

I can never work out why so few dive sites operate a tag system/receipt for cylinders. The outlay is minimal and prevents exactly this.

The filling station is there to fill cylinders if you do not want to wait and watch your cylinder being filled how will a tag stop some low life walking up saying that one mine paying for it and driving off. If some one wants a cylinder the fact that its battered wont stop them as £3.00 for a fill and £10.00 for some paint from Halfords is cheaper than Ebay. the fact that some body is a fellow diver does not stop them being a thieving scumbag.

I very rarely stay to watch my cylinders at Stoney, if I am watching its only because there is no long line of waiting cylinders.

I hope you get your cylinder back.

Graham.

I think one_tc suggest a tag-receipt system - matched pairs of tags - one on the tank, one you take away, produce your matching tag to get your cylinder back. Whether it is worht it I don't know, trust works most of the time.

Of course the ideal solution is to go diving on a boat with a compressor, instead of in quarries, if only :)

No tag = no cylinder. It works in all the place I've seen use it.

It's no different to taking your car to be serviced, you expect to get it back - without standing there watching it all day.

Just had a call from Chris @ Capernwray.

He has offered me a 12 litre cylinder (with at least 2 1/2 years test and a handle) on 'loan'; pending the appearance of my original cylinder.

A member of my club has relatives in the area, so they've volunteered to pick it up.

Result!!!!

Glad you are getting a cylinder back even if it is not your own. You never know - it might still turn up.

best wishes,
